Sagewood school learners were privileged to write the English and Mathematics SIATs in 2014 and 2015. The tests are well designed and tested essential skills and application of knowledge. The diagnostic reports that accompany the results are thorough and provided valuable, rich feedback to teachers which were used to identify learning weaknesses and strengths as well as common areas for improvement. The SIATS further allowed for professional development of teachers. Teachers were able to collaborate during subject and phase meetings and this informed future planning and assessment. Teachers used the substantial information to correct and develop their teaching styles/strategies. What I liked especially was that the entire process from the delivery of question papers, to the collection and reporting/feedback were effectively managed and organised.
