SIAT exams are a good diagnostic tool. We have grade 8 and 10 students do the English and Maths SIAT exams in September each year. The results reveal the strengths and weaknesses of pupils in different components of each subject, making teachers aware in each case of these areas. Teachers are then able to adapt teaching in order to strengthen areas of weakness. These tests also serve as an international bench marker, giving an idea of how pupils compare with other pupils their age. This is always an interesting observation, especially as pupils consider more and more, the option of international study on a tertiary level.
